Johnnie Walker Blue Label is the top of the Johnnie Walker range and one of the most gifted whiskies in the world. Each bottle carries its own serial number, and the blenders build each batch from some of the rarest whiskies in the company’s reserves.
From a grocer’s shop to a global name
The story began in 1820, when John Walker opened a grocery in Kilmarnock, Scotland, and started blending whiskies for his customers. His family built the brand into the famous “Striding Man.” Then, in 1992, the company introduced Blue Label as the pinnacle of the range.
What makes it special
Blue Label is a blended Scotch made from a small selection of rare casks, chosen for flavor rather than a single age statement. In fact, the brand says only a very small share of its casks are good enough for Blue Label. As a result, the whisky is smooth and layered, and every bottle carries its own number.
How it tastes
Expect honey, dried fruit, hazelnut, dark chocolate and a gentle wisp of smoke, with a velvety texture and a long finish. Overall, it is approachable for newer whisky drinkers and rewarding for experienced ones.
How to serve
- The brand’s ritual: sip a little ice-cold water first to refresh the palate, then taste the whisky neat.
- Neat or with a drop of water: no ice needed.
- Pair with: smoked salmon, dark chocolate or roasted nuts.
Limited editions: Johnnie Walker releases special Blue Label designs, such as Lunar New Year zodiac bottles. We carry the Year of the Horse edition, a popular Lunar New Year gift.
